S2. EP33– Wally Storey

Wally Storey

On today’s episode we’ve got legendary racing engineer Wally Storey, also known as the grandpa of the paddock. Wally is loved by everyone down pit-lane and boy oh boy in this episode, does he have some stories to tell.

Wally started his career racing in Formula Fords and decided it got too expensive to compete despite winning numerous races. So, what do you do when you’ve run out of cash? You help your mate! Wally helped out his best friend Bruce Connelly who went on to win the National Formula Ford Championship and that's only just the beginning.

In this podcast you will learn about everything you need to know about Australian motorsports. Wally talks about the engineering side of Supercars, Touring Cars and managing superstar drivers like Jamie Whincup, the late Jason Richards and many more. We also discuss this year's Bathurst 1000 where Wally worked as the team manager for the Caltex Young Gun's, the nitty gritty of the V8 Supercar rule book and what it's really like to work in motorsports.

Hooly is not left speechless in many episodes on this podcast, but the way Wally told these stories will leave you wanting more. Anyway, enough chit chat, start listening and make sure you have a pen because there are plenty of valuable notes to take, beyond the helmet!
